The asteroid named Bennu has been under close scrutiny of late as it continues on its lonely journey through space. Or perhaps, it isn’t so lonely after all. While scientists have known that there are some strange things about Bennu for a while now, recent images have sparked interest from another group: UFO conspiracy theorists. While scientists are fascinated by the strange gravity apparent near the asteroid’s surface, the conspiracy theorists are fixated on newly-taken images from the OSIRIS-REx mission that show what could be alien buildings, ships, and more!
The Alien Presence
One conspiracy theorist is the main voice now crying “aliens”: Scott C. Waring, who has given himself the title “UFO researcher.” He thinks that what others believe to simply be rocks, craters, and other natural phenomenons on the asteroid are actually alien structures and constructs. On UFO Sightings Daily, a well-known blog among alien conspiracy circles, Waring wrote a post on the 19th of March asking a simple question: “Have you ever wondered how NASA chose to explore a certain asteroid in space?”
Waring then goes on to answer that question, saying that NASA chose Bennu because it was not only the slowest and closest asteroid to study, but because it also has the most alien technology present upon it. He goes on to show several enlarged areas of a single photo, showing what he says are obviously several buildings and an alien ship of some kind. “And that’s not nearly all,” says, Waring. What he shows in that post were only from one of 31 photographs of Bennu he has looked at, and there are many more secrets to be found in the others.
Waring even went so far as to tweet on UFO Sighting Daily’s Twitter account that NASA not only knows what’s on the asteroid but that they are hiding it from the public, stating:
“Asteroid Bennu Close Ups Of Alien Ships And Buildings That NASA Tries To Hide From The Public, NASA Source, March 2019, UFO Sighting”
NASA, of course, denies knowing anything about any possible alien presence on Bennu. All the buildings and ships and other objects Waring claims to see in the photographs are simply rock formations, nothing more. However, NASA is still quite keen on studying the asteroid. Not for any possible findings of alien technology, or so they claim, but because it may give scientists a glimpse into how water and organic matter necessary to life may have arrived on Earth and also because of Bennu’s odd gravity.
NASA’s Origins, Spectral Interpretation, Resource Identification, Security-Regolith Explorer (OSIRIS-REx) mission has turned up findings on Bennu that have recently been published by a team at CU Boulder. The most interesting thing mentioned in these papers isn’t alien, at least not obviously so, but it is strange. Bennu’s gravity has some anomalies that the scientists are still studying and trying to explain. Currently, the team is mapping the asteroid’s gravity, already having discovered that it seems to be balancing between two competing gravity forces. No-one yet knows what is behind this gravitic phenomenon…or no-one is admitting they know, at least.
A Seed Asteroid
If the possibility of aliens isn’t enough, there is also the very slight chance that Bennu could impact the Earth! Scientists admitted as much back in 2016, stating that there is an incredibly slim chance that Bennu could collide with our planet, but stating that even if it did, the asteroid simply is not large enough to pose a planet-ending threat.
That being said, this does mean that scientists can use Bennu in studies of how materials essential to life may have arrived on our planet eons ago, leading to the eventual rise of the human race. Similar asteroids may have brought water, organic material, and other critical elements to a primordial Earth. And now, Bennu may just be bringing something new, something alien here.
